Lucio Fulci films you need to watch!

Lucio Fulci (1927-1996) was an Italian film director, screenwriter and actor. With his sharp tongue and a dark sense of humor, his career spanned from comedy via giallo to splatter films of the 1970s and 1980s he became particulary well known and loved for. Fulci made his international breakthrough with Zombi 2 in 1979 (a nominal sequel to George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, which was called Zombi in Italy). The film featured bold cinematography, tangible atmosphere and a lot(!) of blood and gore. Zombi 2 gave him a reputation as a veritable master of horror, and he followed up Zombie 2 with several other horror films that led to him being compared to Italy's other horror master, Dario Argento. The two never worked together, and Fulci also became known for constantly slamming  Argento and his work. An ever so toxic bromance straight out of Hell, I guess.  I love you but I hate you but I love you but I hate you, sort of.   One dark and stormy evening, an evening of u...

Feinschmecker giallo films!

It's really hard not to like giallo when you like horror movies. If you ask me. It has the seventies feel to it, it has slashing, practical effects, razors and negligees, black gloves and mansions. ...and the names of these movie, my goodness. "Aunt Martha does dreadful things", for example. 😍 One of our rookies is a regular cornucopia of knowledge of giallo, and he dug into his mind looking for the more obscure giallo movies.  Enjoy! ✌ Murder Obsession (Riccardo Freda, 1980; Italian: Follia omicida) aka Fear, aka The Wailing, aka The Murder Syndrome The Secret of Seagull Island (Nestore Ungaro, 1981; Italian: L'isola del gabbiano) Madhouse (Ovidio Assonitis, 1981) aka There Was a Little Girl Tenebrae (Dario Argento, 1982) aka Unsane The Scorpion with Two Tails (Sergio Martino, 1982; Italian: Assassinio al cimitero etrusco / Murder in the Etruscan Cemetery) A Blade in the Dark (Lamberto Bava, 1982; Italian: La casa con la scala nel buio / The House with the Dar...

Giallo: The beauty of death

Glorious giallo... Death has never been more beautiful! 💘 Giallo is a genre of Italian cinema that began with mystery paperbacks featuring yellow covers in the 1920s. Giallo movies are stylish and violent murder-mystery thrillers often incorporating elements of psychological horror, suspense, and often mild to moderate eroticism. If the sight of the occasional skimmed milk - coloured boob freaks you out, giallo may not be for you, to put it that way. Typically characterized by a hidden killer often wearing gloves and weilding shiny knives, intricate plots with twists, graphically violent and stylized murder scenes, and highly atmospheric visuals, the genre's most influential filmmakers include Mario Bava and Dario Argento. The rookies know a thing or two about giallo, so we have compiled 36 giallo tips for your viewing convenience. # Tittel (År) IMdB 1 Deep red aka Profondo rosso (1975) 7,6 2 Killer without a face (1968) 7,4 3 Suspiria (1977) 7,4 4 Th...
